DXP – Information

While all the field data and statistics can show us what improvements we can expect when using our product, what does that actually mean? How does it help?

We can answer some of those questions and bring a bit of insight into the benefits a premium fuel additive such as DXP can have on our fuel, our vehicles, and our environment!

Let’s face it, petroleum based fuels have a limited life. We all really want to see and improvement or a change, but simply there is nothing yet available that meets those needs. In the meantime, what we can do is make the fuel we are using work to the absolute best of its capabilities and in that, minimise the impact it has on our environment, while maximising its potential, and saving us money. And it simply does not need to cost a great deal. With the wildly fluctuating fuel prices we see almost daily, knowing that as little as 2.5c/L we can stabilise the outcome of the fuel we use, and be in complete charge of the fuel quality and efficiency.

Firstly, it is important to recognise that DXP premium fuel additive works for both petrol and diesel. There are no chemicals, metals, or minerals in our product. We use a combination of ashless organic oils to bring about the benefits that are experienced. Being oil, it is lubricant based, non-hazardous, and cannot harm any engine in any way.

All ASTM and Australian National Fuel Quality Guarantee standards are met and more often, surpassed.

In this article we will cover more widely the following benefits of DXP Premium Fuel Additive.
  • Cetane/Octane Improver
  • Moisture Removal
  • Lubricity
  • Injector & Fuel System Cleaner
  • Biocide – killing and preventing biological growth
  • Fuel Storage & improved longevity

Cetane/Octane Improver

Cetane in Diesel is what Octane is for Petrol. They represent a rating assigned to a fuel to rate the quality of its combustion. The higher the number, the better the combustion.

DXP contains no cetane or octane. How we improve combustion is by improving the molecular structure of the fuel, so it burns more efficiently, thereby increasing the rated number. In our recommended ratios we see Cetane increase of around 5 points, Octane around 2 points. A higher cetane\octane number results in quicker ignition of the fuel leading to less non-ignited fuels building up inside the combustion chamber, as well as more complete fuel combustion. Better fuel combustion and quick ignition leads to quicker starting for vehicles, as well as an engine that operates more quietly as only misted fuel is ignited and build-up inside the engine is minimised. Moreover, fuel efficiency improves with more complete combustion, along with power improvement and more effective torque. We then see a reduction in harmful emissions and by-products such as soot and blow-by. This has a profound effect on the DPF and EGR Systems. With less soot the DPF filter can catch soot and burn off easily within normal operation, reducing significantly the need for manual burn-offs or DPF cleaning. This extends the life of the DPF saving you time and what can amount to a serious amount of maintenance costs. Similarly, the EGR valve is kept lubricated and free of deposits, minimising build up through the EGR system, reducing necessary cleaning and maintenance costs.

Moisture Removal

All fuel contains moisture, which if left unchecked can be the single most destructive component to an engine. In many ways perhaps the most important issue. Moisture in fuel leads to a huge range of issues that degrade engine performance, reduce longevity, encourage corrosion and engine wear. Water is the most corrosive substance we know of, and modern-day high-pressure engines are more susceptible to the problems it causes in many ways. This is really the only visible examples we can give by showing how moisture is absorbed into the fuel. By emulsifying moisture into the fuel, it gets removed from the system during combustion and extraction. By increasing the saturation point (this is the point where moisture separates from the fuel when it can no longer becontained) we keep the moisture that is present atomised within the fuel, neutralising its harmful potentials. Especially important for Common Rail Diesel and modern high pressure fuel system, where separated moisture can cause serious damage over time. By removing the moisture, you inhibit the affect it can have such as corrosion, abrasion, etching, spalling, pitting and cavitation. Other affects that require a saturated content of moisture present such as microbial growth, oxidation and chemical reactions caused by soft solids, are also greatly reduced or eliminated. DXP Premium Fuel Additive will deal with 50ml of moisture per 100L of fuel treated at the recommended ratio of 1ml:2000ml. Can be used in higher initial doses if dealing with a greater volume of moisture build up.

Lubricity

The job of a lubricant is to minimise friction, and therefor damage, to components of the engine that are in relative motion to each other. The oils we use have lubricity 4 times greater than sulphur, with no harmful emissions. This produces reduced wear on engines, allowing for peak performance and engine longevity, leading to further fuel savings and protecting the engine. Replacing the lubricants taken out of fuel is where the journey with DXP began. With the removal of environmentally harmful additives like lead and sulphur there was a need to replace the deficiency of lubricity in fuel. We have seen engine life improved by to 12% in long haul truck operators coupled with fuel savings ranging from 5% – 25%. At full ratio DXP can be used in older engines as a lead replacement, and therefore gaining all the other added benefits. Improved lubricity has ab effect on all components in the top end of the engine, including the fuel pump and improving fuel flow.

Injector Cleaning

Keeping the injectors and the fuel system clean and free of debris build up or degradation is critical to the performance of your engine. Dirty injectors inhibit fuel efficiency and performance and in worse case scenarios can cause serious damage as your engine struggles to keep up. Remember, we use only organic oils and lubricants in DXP, no harmful chemicals, metals or minerals. DXP dissolves particulates to sub-micronic particles, passing them through the system and into combustion, where they are burnt away and released. Deposits are minimised and injector life substantially increased, improving engine performance, responsiveness, and fuel efficiency. While nothing can improve damaged injectors, we can keep further damage to a minimum, and protect newer engines for a longer injector life. Our organic oil-based cleaning compounds ensure the entire fuel system from the storage tank all the way through to combustion and into the emission systems, are kept as clean as possible. This improves efficiencies, fuel flow and reduces maintenance costs in the short and long term.Premium Fuel Additive

Biocide

All diesel contains microbes that will proliferate in the right conditions. Moisture separation provides an environment for the growth of bacteria and fungi, the fuel is the food. This can lead to a degradation of fuel with poor combustion, detergent issues, rust, acid formation, corrosion, and filter blocking. DXP removes the moisture separation issue as mentioned earlier, breaking down moisture and microbial contamination at the molecular level. Included is an organic biocide that kills all bacterial spores and growth. Leaving no residue behind even after combustion this ensures that even if there is containment loss and moisture saturation occurs, there can be no biological growth. It will remove existing growth and completely clean the fuel system and keep it clean through continued use. This minimises, even eliminates, the potential of ‘dirty fuel’ ever being an issue. You can be assured, no matter where you fill up, you will return the fuel to its best potential.

Fuel Storage & Improved Longevity

Fuel longevity has become an important issue with the quality of fuels in our current market. Especially with petrol it is not uncommon for it to degrade to ineffective within 3 – 6 months. Diesel is a bit different, as diesel fuel doesn’t generally go bad. It may gel and become to thick to pump, and become contaminated with moisture and biological growth. DXP deals with these issues, improving the life of petrol up to 12 months, and diesel many years. We keep the fuel in motion, minimising evaporation and preventing gelling and waxing down to -10C. By keeping moisture suspended we prevent corrosion potential and biological growth, even with containment loss. The lubricant we used acts as a sealant, coating all systems in an oil the is anti-corrosive, prevents deposits and improves fuel flow through pumping systems. This in petrol also prevents the crystallisation and gumming up of the fuel systems when left for long periods. Even if the fuel loses it’s combustibility, the fuel system is protected. Great for small engines as no need to remove and clean carbies or corroded fuel systems.
